How to Puree Blackberries
Pureeing blackberries in a food processor is a simple process. A blackberry puree has a smooth texture that makes it ideal to add to recipes or use in sauces. The puree has a thick consistency, but it should not contain any seeds or large pieces of pulp. After you puree the blackberries, store them in the refrigerator or freezer until you are ready to use them.
Things You'll Need
- Food processor
- Mesh sieve
- Bowl
- Airtight container
- Ice cube tray
- Zipper-sealed plastic bag
Instructions
-
Rinse the blackberries off under cool water to remove any dirt and foreign substances. Select ripe and firm blackberries.
-
Place the blackberries into a food processor.
-
Press the puree button on the food processor or blend the blackberries on "low" until no large chunks appear.
-
Pour the blackberry puree through a mesh sieve over a bowl to separate the liquid from any remaining solids.
-
Pour the blackberry puree into an airtight container. Place it in the refrigerator for two days, or store it in the freezer by pouring the puree into ice cube trays. Once the puree freezes in the ice cube trays, place the frozen cubes in airtight zipper-sealed bags, and store for up to 12 months.
