The Best Way to Preserve a Banana (9 Steps)

Packed with nutrients and an excellent source of energy, bananas are among the best fruits for your body. Bananas are very high in potassium, which our bodies needs to make proteins and metabolize carbohydrates. This super fruit is also rich in vitamin C and fiber. Bananas ripen quickly and are not easy to keep for a long time. If you find yourself with a lot of bananas that you will not be able to consume in the next few days, freezing them is the best way to preserve the bananas.

Preserving Whole Bananas

  1. Peel the bananas and place them on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.

  2. Slice up the bananas if you would like to be able to use small amounts of banana at a time. You may also keep them whole if you prefer.

  3. Place the bananas in the freezer to flash freeze.

  4. Remove the baking sheet from the freezer when the bananas are frozen solid.

  5. Place the frozen bananas in resealable freezer bags. Label the the bags with the date. Frozen bananas can last for two to three months in the freezer.

Preserving Mashed Bananas

  1. Peel the bananas

  2. Slice and mash the bananas with a fork. If you want a puree consistency, place them in a blender with 1 tbsp. of lemon juice for every cup of mashed banana and blend.

  3. Place the mashed or pureed banana in a resealable freezer bag and then place that bag in another freezer bag to prevent any leakage.

  4. Place the bag in the freezer until you need it.
