Where are tomatoes found?
Tomatoes are fruits of herbaceous vine plants in the genus Solanum of the nightshade family, Solanaceae. Tomatoes are widely cultivated for their edible, red, juicy fruits (botanically classified as berries). They are commonly used as a vegetable or salad ingredient, but they can also be used as a fruit, such as in desserts and juices. Tomatoes are native to South America, and they were first cultivated by the Aztecs and Incas. They were introduced to Europe by the Spanish in the 16th century, and they quickly became a popular food there as well. Today, tomatoes are grown all over the world, and they are one of the most popular fruits on Earth.
