How do you make isomalt at home?
Isomalt is a type of sugar substitute that is used in a variety of low-carb and sugar-free foods. It is made from two types of sugar alcohols, maltitol and lactitol. Isomalt is not as sweet as sugar, but it has a similar taste and texture. It can be used in place of sugar in a variety of recipes, such as cakes, cookies, and candy.
To make isomalt at home, you will need the following ingredients:
* 1 cup maltitol
* 1/2 cup lactitol
* 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
* 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Instructions:
1. In a large saucepan, combine the maltitol, lactitol, cream of tartar, and baking soda.
2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened and turned a light amber color.
4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
5. Pour the isomalt into a mold or container and let it cool completely.
6. Once the isomalt has cooled, it can be used in place of sugar in a variety of recipes.
Isomalt can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 6 months.
