How do you make an Insulated Roman Shade?

### Materials

* Fabric (at least 1/2 yard per window)

* Insulating batting (such as Warm & Natural cotton batting)

* Muslin or lightweight cotton fabric (for lining)

* Dowel rod (1 inch diameter)

* Cord (1/8 inch diameter)

* Cord cleats

* Scissors

* Sewing machine

* Iron

* Measuring tape

* Pencil

* Pins

Instructions

1. Cut the fabric, insulating batting, and lining to the following dimensions:

- Fabric: 2 pieces (A) 24" wide x 36" high

- Insulating Batting: 1 piece (B) 24" wide x 35 3/4" high

- Lining Fabric: 1 piece (C) 24" wide x 35 1/2" high

2. Sew the insulating batting between the two layers of fabric, using a 1/4-inch seam. Press flat.

3. Sew the top edge of the shade along the 24" side. Fold under 1/4 inch and sew again to make a casing for the dowel rod.

4. Fold under 1/2 inch along the bottom edge of the shade, and sew a pocket for the dowel. Insert the dowel into the pocket.

5. Sew a 1-inch hem along the sides of the shade.

6. Sew the lining to the shade along the top edge, right sides together. Press flat.

7. Fold under 1/4 inch along the bottom edge of the lining and sew a 1-inch hem.

8. Insert the dowel rod into the casing at the top of the shade.

9. Cut several lengths of cord, each about twice as long as the finished height of the shade.

10. Tie one end of each cord around the dowel rod, and the other end around the cord cleat.

Your insulated Roman shade is now complete!
