Can a dishwasher sterilize canning jars?
While a dishwasher can help clean and sanitize canning jars, it cannot sterilize them sufficiently for home canning purposes. Home canning requires jars to be sterilized at much higher temperatures than dishwashers can reach. To sterilize canning jars for home canning, submerging them in boiling water for at least 10 minutes is recommended. This method ensures the jars are free from microorganisms that can cause food spoilage or pose a safety risk in canned foods.
