How to Tell How Many Ounces Fit in a Jar
Most jars are sold according to capacity. The maximum number of ounces is usually printed on the jar itself or on the packaging. However, if you don't know how many ounces a jar can hold you can figure it out using a few household tools and a measurement conversion formula.
Things You'll Need
- Measuring cups
- Measuring spoons

Fill a one-cup fluid measuring device with water and pour it into the jar. Repeat as many times as possible without overflowing the jar. Record how many cups you were able to pour into the jar.

Pour water into a 1/2-cup or 1/4-cup measuring device and pour the water into the jar without overflowing. Record the additional amount held by the jar.

Pour water into a tablespoon measuring device and count how many tablespoons it takes to finish filling the jar.

Calculate the number of ounces that fit in the jar. One cup is eight ounces, one-half cup is four ounces, one-quarter cup is two ounces and two tablespoons are one ounce.
