How to Cut Lemons and Limes (10 Steps)
Few things top off a cold drink better than a lemon or lime garnish. This is not only to flavor the drink but enhance the appearance as well. There are two ways to cut lemons and limes for drinks: one is called a wheel and the other the wedge. The wedge equates to 1/8 of the whole lemon or lime, allowing more portions compared to the wheel.
Things You'll Need
- Cutting board
- Knife
Wedge
-
Place the lemon or lime on the cutting board and slice off the ends.
-
Place the lemon or lime on the cutting board with one of the cut sides down and slice lengthwise down the center of the fruit. Place one of the halves aside.
-
Reposition the remaining half of fruit with the peel up and the large cut edge touching the cutting board. The two cut ends will be facing your hands.
-
Slice once down the center of the fruit to cut in half crosswise, then slice these two pieces down the middle to quarter this fruit half. Repeat with the other fruit half to get 8 lemon or lime wedges.
-
Before serving, place a small slice on the cut edge of each wedge, rub it along the inside of the glass then place it on the lip to serve.
Wheel
-
Place the lemon or lime on the cutting board.
-
Slice off the ends of the fruit.
-
Slice the fruit in half crosswise.
-
Slice the lemon or lime into equal portions. Each of these portions will look like a wheel, or circle. Use your judgment for the thickness of these portions.
-
Place a small slice on one side of the fruit and secure to the lip of the glass before serving. Lemon and lime wheels are not designed to flavor drinks, so do not rub inside the glass before serving.
