How to Boil Chia Seeds (7 Steps)
Many people are familiar with Chia Pet commercials, but are unaware of the nutritional benefits of the chia seed. This small seed is a powerhouse of nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber. You may eat chia in its raw form or boil it with other ingredients for food such as soup or hot cereal.
Things You'll Need
- 2 1/2 cups of water or 3 cups of milk
- 1/2 cup roasted kasha
- 1/2 cup chia seeds
- 1/2 tsp. butter
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- Honey
- Soy, milk or cream
- Chia Pudding
- 3 ½ cups water
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- Sea salt
- 1 cup cashews
- 2 ½ tbsp. maple syrup
Make a Hot Cereal
-
Pour 2 ½ cups of water or 3 cups of milk into a saucepan. Bring it to boil.
-
Add in ½ cup of roasted kasha, ¼ cup of chia seeds, ½ tsp. of butter and ½ tsp. of salt. Stir slowly.
-
Let the mixture boil for about 12 minutes, stirring at intervals. Remove the pan from the fire.
-
Serve the cereal while it is hot. You can sweeten it with honey and add soy, milk or cream.
Chia Pudding
-
Blend 3 ½ cups of water, 1 tsp. of vanilla, a pinch of sea salt, 1 cup of cashews and 2 ½ tbsp. of maple syrup together. Stop blending when the mixture is smooth.
-
Pour the liquid into a pan and add ¼ cup of chia seeds. Since the seeds are so light you may need to mix them in with a spoon or egg whisk.
-
Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring at intervals. Let it simmer until the mixture is as thick as you wish. Remove it from the stove and serve.
