How to Substitute Flour for All-Purpose Baking Mix
An all-purpose baking mix is usually a mix of flour, baking powder, salt and vegetable shortening. It is useful to have around if you often make pancakes or biscuits because it adds flavor and fluffiness that flour alone could not. If you cannot find any premade all-purpose baking mix, you can easily create the same effect in your own kitchen by starting with flour and adding in a few other ingredients.
Things You'll Need
- 6 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 1 1/4 cups vegetable shortening
- Blender
Instructions
-
Put 6 cups all-purpose flour, 3 tbsp. baking powder, 1 tbsp. salt and 1 1/4 cups vegetable shortening into a blender.
-
Blend on high power until the shortening is completely mixed in with the rest of the ingredients.
-
Remove from blender and measure the correct amount of mixture that you need for your recipe. This mixture will give you approximately 7 1/2 cups of all-purpose baking mix and will stay good for up to two months in a sealed container or jar.
