How to Roast Shredded Coconut

Shredded coconut is used in many recipes for its unique taste and texture. Roasted coconut adds a caramel flavor to a dish and provides a new dimension to its texture. Roasting coconut is also useful as it increases the shelf life of the coconut. Shredded coconut can be roasted on a stove-top or in the oven.

Things You'll Need

  • Pan
  • Baking sheet

Stove Top

  1. Place the pan on the stove burner. Heat the pan over medium-low heat.

  2. Add the coconut to the pan when it is hot.

  3. Shake or stir the pan while the coconut roasts.

  4. Remove the pan from the burner when the coconut turns golden brown.

Oven

  1. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.

  2. Place the coconut on the baking sheet. Spread the coconut on the sheet so it spreads evenly and forms a thin layer.

  3. Place the baking sheet in the oven. Remove the baking sheet from the oven every five minutes and stir the coconut. This ensures the coconut roasts evenly.

  4. Remove the baking sheet from the oven when the coconut turns golden brown.
