How to Melt Chocolate Chips for Buckeyes
The traditional buckeye candy provides a sweet and satisfying combination of salty peanut butter and creamy chocolate. This delightful combination of sweet and salty makes buckeye candies a perennial favorite, especially around the winter holidays. As you prepare buckeyes, you will need to melt chocolate chips for dipping the peanut butter candies. Take care as you melt the chocolate to avoid burning or scorching and your buckeyes will be tasty treats.
Things You'll Need
- Two-quart bowl (microwave-safe)
- Milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Microwave
- Plastic or wooden spoon
Instructions
-
Place the chocolate chips required by your recipe into the microwave-safe bowl.
-
Place the bowl into the microwave. Set the microwave to cook at about 75 percent power. Set the microwave for two minutes and start it.
-
Stop the microwave every 15 seconds and stir the chocolate chips with the spoon. Start the microwave again. Cook the chocolate chips again for 15 seconds.
-
Continue cooking the chocolate chips for 15-second intervals until the chips appear about 85 percent melted. Stop the microwave and allow the bowl to sit undisturbed in the microwave for about one minute.
-
Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the chocolate chips with the spoon. Just stirring the chips with the spoon for about a minute will melt the remaining chips without burning them.
-
Dip the prepared peanut candies into the melted chocolate to finish the buckeyes.
