How to Make Fried Dough With Pizza Dough
Italian fried dough is a tasty indulgence often found at county fairs. Similar to funnel cake, Italian fried dough can be made both sweet, with a dusting of powdered sugar or savory with marinara sauced ladled on top. Fried pizza dough is made in a variety of ways, depending upon where you live and the type of Italian restaurants in your area. Using some store-bought pizza dough, you can easily make and enjoy a simple fried dough from the comfort of your home.
Things You'll Need
- 1 lb. ready-made pizza dough
- 3 cups oil, canola or vegetable
- Optional Toppings:
- Grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
- Marinara sauce
- Powdered sugar
- Cinnamon
Instructions
-
Fill a deep pan with 4 inches of oil and heat to 375 F.
-
Divide the pizza dough into even pieces, depending on the size you want each piece to be.
-
Lightly flour a clean kitchen surface and press each piece of pizza dough into a flat, round shape.
-
Drop the discs of dough into the hot oil. Allow it to rise to the surface and turn it occasionally until both sides are golden brown.
-
Remove the pizza dough from the oil and drain on paper towels. Top with the marinara sauce and cheese for savory fried dough; or top with powdered sugar and cinnamon for a sweet dessert.
