How to Cook Corn on the Fire

Corn on the cob brings the taste of summer to any meal. Cooking corn over a fire gives a different taste than the boiling water method. You can grill the corn on the cob or cook it directly over the fire and achieve the same sweet taste. Corn is a great addition to a meal when camping or a summer barbecue. By leaving the husk on the corn you will have a perfectly cooked tender corn on the cob.

Things You'll Need

  • Corn on the cob
  • Grill or campfire
  • Aluminum foil
  • Tongs

Campfire Cooking

  1. Soak the corn inside the husk in water for 15 minutes. This will keep the corn from burning.

  2. Light the campfire while the corn is soaking. You can use wood or charcoal for the fire.

  3. Place the corn directly on the fire. Watch the corn closely, turning occasionally. The outside of the husk will become darker but the steam will cook the corn inside.

  4. Remove the corn from the fire using tongs or an oven mitt and set aside to cool for a few minutes.

  5. Remove the corn husk and eat the roasted corn directly off the cob.

Grilled Corn

  1. Wrap the corn, still in its husk, in aluminum foil and start your grill. If using a grill with a lid, close the lid so the grill will heat evenly.

  2. Place the corn on the grill and close the lid. Allow the corn to cook on the grill for 45 minutes. Turn the corn every 10 to 15 minutes.

  3. Remove the wrapped corn from the grill and place on a plate. Allow to cool for 10 minutes.

  4. Take the aluminum foil off the corn, peel off the husk and serve.
