How to Freeze Baby Back Ribs After Cooking (7 Steps)
Baby back ribs are succulent and tasty, but they take a long time to prepare properly. Fortunately, you can barbecue a large batch and freeze the extras for future enjoyment. Reheated ribs won't be as good as they were fresh off the grill, but they come close.
Things You'll Need
- Plastic wrap or foil
- Knife
- Freezer bags
- Permanent marker
- Microwave or oven
Freezing baby back ribs
-
Wrap the ribs in plastic wrap or cover with foil and cool them in the refrigerator before preparing for freezing.
-
Cut ribs into individual serving or family meal size portions. You want to be able to thaw and use only the required amount for a meal, but don't cut between every rib.
-
Place each portion of ribs in a plastic bag designed for freezer use, along with desired sauces. Eliminate as much air as possible and seal the bag.
-
Label the bags indicating cooked baby back ribs, the kind of sauce, if any, and the date using a permanent marker.
-
Place the ribs in the freezer and store at 0 degrees or below. You can check the temperature of your freezer with an inexpensive freezer thermometer.
-
Use frozen baby back ribs within 3 to 4 months for best flavor.
-
Thaw ribs in the refrigerator, then wrap them in aluminum foil and reheat them slowly in a 250 degree Fahrenheit oven until heated through. This could take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of your portions. For faster reheating, microwave them on a microwave safe dish covered loosely with plastic wrap.
