How to Sear a Hamburger (5 Steps)
There's nothing like biting into a juicy hamburger at a barbecue or picnic. Nearly everyone has a different recipe or special ingredients they add to this classic American favorite. Grilling hamburgers produces some of the best-tasting results, but they can easily be cooked in a skillet or pan as well. No matter what you choose to cook it on, searing the hamburgers over high heat is one of the best ways to seal in the juices of a hamburger, ensuring a moist, flavorful result.
Things You'll Need
- Barbecue grill (gas or charcoal)
- Large frying pan
- Spatula
Instructions

Preheat a grill or skillet to high heat.

Place the hamburger on the grill or skillet and sear one side for for 5 minutes.

Flip over and sear the other side for another 4 minutes.

Reduce the heat slightly to medium-high and continue to cook to your desired level of doneness. If you are using a grill, move the burger to a cooler part of the grill to finish cooking.

Remove the burger from the grill or pan and eat on a hamburger bun with your favorite toppings.
