How to Color Vegetable Oil With Food Coloring
Vegetable oil is not only useful to deep fry foods such as French fries or mozzarella sticks, but can also be used in science experiments, such as those showing the difference between water and oil. When using vegetable oil for science experiments, it can be more fun for children to use colored vegetable oil instead of the plain colors you find in the store.
Things You'll Need
- Bowl
- Food coloring
Instructions
-
Pour vegetable oil in a microwave safe bowl.
-
Heat the oil for 90 seconds to make it nice and hot, which allows the food coloring to absorb better into the vegetable oil.
-
Drop two drops of food coloring into the vegetable oil and stir thoroughly.
-
Continue to add food coloring, one drop at a time, while stirring the vegetable oil. You don't need to add too much since the oil and food coloring do not mix together completely, which keeps the color more vibrant when in oil.
