Which gas used in houses for cooking?
Natural gas is commonly used in households for cooking. It is a flammable mixture of gases primarily consisting of methane, but also containing other hydrocarbons such as ethane, propane, and butane. Natural gas is colorless and odorless in its natural state, so a chemical odorant called mercaptan is added to it for safety reasons. This odorant gives natural gas a distinct, pungent smell that can be easily detected in case of a gas leak.
