How do you grate a lemon peel?
Step 1: Wash the lemon
Wash the lemon thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or debris.
Step 2: Remove the zest from the lemon using a zester
Hold the lemon in one hand and the zester in the other. Gently scrape the zest (the outer layer of the lemon peel) off the lemon, working your way around the entire lemon. Be careful not to scrape the white pith, as this can make your dish bitter.
Step 3: Use a Microplane grater
If you don't have a zester, you can also use a Microplane grater. To do this, simply hold the lemon in one hand and the Microplane in the other. Gently grate the lemon peel off, working your way around the entire lemon.
Step 4: Use the grater to grate fine lemon zest
For certain recipes, you may need to grate the lemon zest more finely. To do this, simply use the Microplane grater with a smaller grating surface.
