Farm Animal Cupcake Ideas

Old MacDonald may not be on the guest list for your child’s birthday or themed party -- but his farm friends can be. Use simple ingredients that you can find in the baking and candy aisles to turn baked and cooled cupcakes into friendly farm animals.

S Is for Sheep

  • Frost the cupcake with white icing, mounding the icing slightly. Shape a small piece of baked brownie into a quarter-sized, slightly flattened ball. Place it on the lower half of the cupcake for the face. Add two edible wiggly eyes, or use white icing with a dot of black in the center to make eyes. Cover exposed areas with mini marshmallows to create the sheep’s wool.

P Is for Pig

  • Use pink icing and frost the cupcake smooth. Cut one large marshmallow in half, and use the half in the center of the bottom third of the cupcake for the nose. Add two dots of black icing for nostrils. Cut the second half of the marshmallow in half again. Attach them at the top of each side of the cupcake for ears. Two mini chocolate chips above the nose for eyes complete this little piggy.

C Is for Cow

  • To add a cow to your menagerie, frost the cupcake smooth with white icing. Place a pink candy wafer -- or pipe a circle of pink icing -- at the bottom of the cupcake to create the nose. Add two small dots of black icing in the middle to create nostrils. Place two white jellybeans at the top over the nose for horns, two round chocolate-covered candy pieces for ears and two mini chocolate chips under the horns for eyes.
