Baking Cheeseburgers in a Cupcake Tin
You may have used your cupcake tin countless times to make muffins or cupcakes, but it can do so much more for you in the kitchen. Cupcake tins are also excellent for cooking individual portions of savory foods such as cheeseburgers. Spoon the ground meat into your cupcake tin to cook in the oven, producing fast, evenly cooked burgers that are all ready at the same time.
Tin Prep
-
Use a 6-cup pan for larger burgers or a 12-cup pan for mini burgers. Whichever pan you choose, grease the cups generously with oil to ensure you can remove the burgers easily when they are ready. Alternatively, you can use parchment baking liners. If you don't have those, use a plain roll of parchment paper and cut pieces to fit into the cupcake tin cups.
Burger Meat Prep
-
Prepare the meat as you would for burgers cooked on the grill. Ground beef isn't the only meat you can use to make the burgers, either. You can use ground turkey, chicken, lamb or pork. Season the meat to taste with spices such as salt, pepper and garlic. Use an ice cream scooper or a large spoon to portion it into the cups in approximately equal amounts.
Cooking the Burgers
-
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The type of meat you use will determine the length of cooking time; meat and poultry need to be cooked to different temperatures. Ground beef, pork and lamb must be cooked to an internal temperature of 160 F, while turkey and chicken must be cooked to 165 F. Expect the burgers to take between 20 to 30 minutes to fully cook. Allow the burgers to cool slightly before using a spoon to carefully lift them out of the muffin tin.
Adding the Cheese
-
You can use any type of cheese you prefer for your cupcake tin cheeseburgers, whether it's classic American, sharp cheddar or Swiss cheese. Add the cheese in one of two ways. Shred the cheese and sprinkle it over top of the burgers once they are fully cooked, leaving them in the tin for another minute until the cheese melts, or lay a thin piece of cheese on top of each burger after you remove them from the pan. Let the residual heat of the burger start melting the cheese. Serve your burgers on mini burger buns.
