How to Substitute for Cake Flour in Recipes

You're in the middle of baking, and suddenly realize the recipe you're creating calls for cake flour, and there's not a grain in the house! What do you do? Don't worry, there's an easy substitution!

Things You'll Need

  • All-purpose flour
  • Flour sifter
  • Tablespoon measure

Instructions

  1. Find out how much cake flour you need in your recipe.

  2. Use all-purpose flour, and remove 2 Tbsp. per cup of flour to equal 1 cup of cake flour. So, if you need 2 cups of cake flour, measure out 2 cups of all-purpose flour, and then remove 4 Tbsp. of flour to equal the cake flour.

  3. Sift the measured all-purpose flour three times.

  4. Use the sifted all-purpose flour as if it was the cake flour in your recipe.
