How to Improve on a Store Bought Cake Mix
You can take a store bought cake mix and make it taste like it was made from scratch. This recipe is great for the folks who are not creative bakers. As a matter of fact, the recipe is just as delicious as it is simple. It's up to you as to whether or not you want to tell everyone the truth that it is not a cake baked from scratch. Here's how to improve on a store bought cake mix.
Things You'll Need
- Cake mix (doesn't make a difference what flavor)
- 1 box of instant pudding (flavor of your own choosing)
- 1 cup of sour cream
- ½ cup of chocolate chips
- Handful of chocolate kisses (optional)
Instructions
-
Gather all of the necessary ingredients listed above and ingredients as indicated on the cake mix box.
-
Place all of the powdered ingredients in a mixing bowl. Be sure to add the instant pudding to the mix before adding any of the liquid ingredients.
-
Add the liquid ingredients and mix. Following the instructions on the box, mix in the remainder of the liquid ingredients such as eggs, milk or water. Some box mixes include butter or margarine. Once you have added the liquid ingredients called for on the box instructions, add the cup of sour cream and mix it thoroughly. You'll notice that the sour cream causes the batter to become very fluffy and rich.
-
Stir in the chocolate chips. Manually mix them in with a spoon. This step is really only for chocolate lovers. There are only a few people in the world who do not like chocolate, so if this cake happens to be for one of those non-chocolate lovers, leave out the chocolate chips.
-
Add the chocolate kisses. This has to be done delicately. Once the creamy, rich batter is poured into the cake pan, delicately place the unwrapped chocolate chips around the surface of the batter. Place it with the cone side down. Push the chocolate kiss just far enough so the bottom of the kiss is even with the top of the cake batter.
-
Bake the cake according to the instructions on the box.
