What is a clam bake?

A clam bake is a method of cooking seafood, traditionally clams, on the beach in a fire pit. The fire pit is constructed by piling stones in a circle and building a fire in the center. Once the fire is hot, a layer of seaweed is placed in the pit, followed by a layer of clams. The seaweed helps to steam the clams and keeps them from drying out. Additional layers of seaweed and clams are added, and the fire is kept going until the clams are cooked.

Clam bakes can vary depending on the region and the type of seafood used. In some areas, other types of seafood such as mussels, lobster, and fish may be added to the bake. Vegetables, such as corn on the cob and potatoes, may also be included.

Clam bakes are typically held as social gatherings, where friends and family come together to enjoy a meal and each other's company. They are often held in the summer months when the weather is warm and the seafood is plentiful.
