Where did pancake come from?

Pancakes have been around for centuries, and their origins can be traced back to ancient Greece. The Greeks made pancakes called "tagēnion" or "tēganitēs", which were made from wheat flour, olive oil, honey, and milk. The Romans also had a version of pancakes called "placenta", which were made from a mixture of flour, water, salt, and yeast. Pancakes were also popular in medieval Europe, where they were often eaten as a Lenten food. They were also a popular street food in London, where they were sold from stalls known as "pancake carts." The first pancake recipe in the United States was published in the "American Cookery Book" by Amelia Simmons in 1796.

The word "pancake" comes from the Middle English word "pancake", which in turn comes from the Old English word "pannecaca", which means "pan cake". This name is derived from the fact that pancakes are traditionally cooked in a frying pan.
