How to Make Fried Oatmeal (3 Steps)
Leftover oatmeal is usually bound for the trash or the microwave. Frying the oatmeal is another option with a few advantages. The cook can add flax seeds or nuts to the fried oatmeal, and fried oatmeal can be picked up and eaten like a piece of pizza. Most recipes use 1 cup of steel-cut oats, though it can work with any leftover cooked oatmeal.
Things You'll Need
- Loaf pan or casserole dish
- 1/2 cup flax seeds (optional)
- 2 tbsp. sugar (optional)
- 2 tsp. flour
- 1/4 cup nuts (optional)
- 1/4 tsp. butter or oil
- Frying pan
- Cutting board
- Knife
Instructions
-
Grease a loaf pan or casserole dish and fill it with oatmeal. Stir in any additional ingredients such as nuts or flax seeds. Put the dish in the refrigerator overnight.
-
In the morning, heat the butter or oil in a frying pan. Shake the cold oatmeal out of the pan and onto a cutting board. Dust the slices with flour. Cut the oatmeal into wedges small enough to fit in the pan.
-
Fry each wedge of oatmeal until it turns brown on one side. Turn it over and brown the other side.
