How to Make Fried Oatmeal (3 Steps)

Leftover oatmeal is usually bound for the trash or the microwave. Frying the oatmeal is another option with a few advantages. The cook can add flax seeds or nuts to the fried oatmeal, and fried oatmeal can be picked up and eaten like a piece of pizza. Most recipes use 1 cup of steel-cut oats, though it can work with any leftover cooked oatmeal.

Things You'll Need

  • Loaf pan or casserole dish
  • 1/2 cup flax seeds (optional)
  • 2 tbsp. sugar (optional)
  • 2 tsp. flour
  • 1/4 cup nuts (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp. butter or oil
  • Frying pan
  • Cutting board
  • Knife

Instructions

  1. Grease a loaf pan or casserole dish and fill it with oatmeal. Stir in any additional ingredients such as nuts or flax seeds. Put the dish in the refrigerator overnight.

  2. In the morning, heat the butter or oil in a frying pan. Shake the cold oatmeal out of the pan and onto a cutting board. Dust the slices with flour. Cut the oatmeal into wedges small enough to fit in the pan.

  3. Fry each wedge of oatmeal until it turns brown on one side. Turn it over and brown the other side.
