Is mixing of Egg Shell and Vinegar reversible or irreversible?
Mixing of eggshell and vinegar is an irreversible change.
When eggshell is mixed with vinegar, the calcium carbonate in the eggshell reacts with the acetic acid in the vinegar to produce calcium acetate, water, and carbon dioxide gas. This reaction is represented by the following chemical equation:
CaCO3 + 2CH3COOH → Ca(CH3COO)2 + H2O + CO2
This reaction is irreversible because the products, calcium acetate, water, and carbon dioxide gas, cannot be converted back into eggshell and vinegar.
