What happens to an unfertilized chicken egg that lays long?
If an unfertilized egg is kept at a relatively low temperature, 40° F or below, it can be safely eaten or used for recipes that call for raw eggs for up to 5 weeks (35 days). If refrigerated at 45° F or above, it can keep for 2 to 3 weeks. For best quality and flavor, eggs are still best when cooked after three to five days.
