How to Boil Many Eggs at Once
Boiled eggs are the foundation for many recipes, such as deviled eggs and egg salad. You can make a very large batch of hard boiled eggs, but you might need a few pots. This is because you need to arrange all of the eggs in a single layer. Otherwise, they might bounce against each other as the water boils, which can crack the shells.
Things You'll Need
- Pots with lids
- Kitchen timers
Instructions
-
Put your pot with the largest footprint on the stove. The pot needs to be at least 4 inches tall and needs to have a lid.
-
Arrange the eggs in a single layer on the bottom of the pot. They can be as close together as you want, but they all need to be resting on the bottom of the pot.
-
Get out your next biggest pot if not all of the eggs fit in the first pot. Continue the process of putting eggs in pots until all of your eggs are in pots.
-
Fill each pot with water until the water level is 1 inch above the eggs.
-
Turn a burner on high under each pot.
-
As soon as the water in a pot comes to a boil, put a lid on the pot, take it off of the burner and set a timer for 17 minutes. If you are using a gas or induction stove, you just need to turn off the burner. If your water comes to a boil at different times for each pot, you will need multiple timers.
-
After 17 minutes have elapsed, gently pour the water out of the pot. Fill the pot with cold water and let the eggs sit in the cold water for 10 minutes.
