Can you eat a banana seed?

Banana "seeds" are small, edible, black specks found in the fruit of some banana varieties. They are actually ovules, which are precursor structures to banana seeds that never matured. While these specks are harmless and can be eaten without any adverse effects, they are not actually seeds.
