Where doES BANOK bread come from?
Bannock bread originated from the Scottish Highlands and Northern England. It is a flat, round bread traditionally made with oatmeal, barley meal, or wheat flour, and water or buttermilk. The dough is mixed, kneaded, and then baked on a griddle or in a frying pan. Scottish oatcakes are different in that they are thinner and are cooked on a thin griddle called a "girdle" or "bakestone" without baking powder or yeast, and are traditionally fried in beef fat.
