How to Cook Biscuits in the Waffle Iron
Do not keep your waffle iron on a shelf only to pull it out for the occasional maple- syrup-drenched breakfast. Think outside the box of waffle mix to biscuits. Depending on your origins, waffle iron biscuits can mean sweet cookies or savory baking powder quick breads served with butter. Make both of these in your waffle iron since the waffle iron cooks at the same temperature biscuits require: 400 degrees F. Get the best results from using a Belgian waffle iron which allows for the additional thickness of savory biscuits.
Things You'll Need
- Waffle iron (preferably a Belgian waffle iron)
- Cooking spray
- Your favorite cookie batter or refrigerated cookie dough
- Tube of refrigerated biscuits or biscuit recipe
Instructions
-
Plug the waffle iron into an outlet to preheat.
-
Mix the biscuit dough or cookie batter. If using a multipurpose mix, prepare as for biscuits rather than waffles; this requires more mix and less water for a stiffer, thicker batter. See resources for recipes.
-
Spray the inside of the waffle maker with cooking spray once the light goes out, signaling the iron is ready.
-
Place tablespoonfuls of the batter, dough, or individual refrigerated biscuits onto the waffle iron. Do not put more than four servings on the waffle iron, depending on size.
-
Close the lid and allow to cook until the light goes out and the steaming stops. Remove the biscuits from the waffle iron and serve immediately.
-
Top the savory biscuits with thick stews or sausage gravy. Use the sweet biscuits (cookies) as bases for a scoop of ice cream or sundae in a bowl.
