How to Moisten Dry Bread (7 Steps)
Fresh warm bread is the perfect accompaniment for any dish, but after a few days bread can lose its flavor. Unprotected bread loses moisture and eventually hardens to a crumbly, unappealing food. You can make stale bread taste a little fresher and softer by using bread revival techniques. Bread that is moldy should not be consumed, but it is safe to soften hardening bread. Stretch your grocery dollar by reconstituting loaves and rolls instead of tossing them out.
Things You'll Need
- Ice cubes
- Baking sheet
- Microwave safe plate
Oven Method
-
Preheat your oven to a temperature of 370 F. Place the whole loaf of bread on a baking sheet. This method will not freshen sliced bread.
-
Grasp an ice cube in your clean fingers. Rub the outside of the bread with the ice cube until the crust is slightly damp. You may need to use more than one ice cube. Do not oversaturate the loaf.
-
Bake the bread for 12 minutes. Remove the bread promptly. Slice and serve the bread.
Microwave Method
-
Wet a sturdy paper towel and wring out the excess water. Wrap the bread loaf or bread slice with the towel.
-
Place the wrapped towel on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave the bread for 10 seconds.
-
Pull back the towel and poke the bread with your finger. If it is soft enough for you, then remove it. Continue to soften the bread in 5 second increments, if needed.
-
Remove the plate from the microwave. Throw away the paper towel and enjoy the bread.
