How to Steam Summer Squash (7 Steps)
You can steam delicious summer squash whole, or you can slice or dice it into smaller pieces.
Things You'll Need
- Knifes
- Distilled Water
- Vegetable Steamers
- Pat Of Butter
Instructions

Rinse squash well.

Cut off ends and cut squash into pieces, if desired.

If using chayote squash, cut into smaller pieces. The smaller the pieces, the more quickly they will cook.

Place squash in vegetable steamer, cover and turn heat to high.

Cook over boiling water 10 to 12 minutes if squash is whole, 3 to 5 minutes if cut into halves or pieces, and 18 to 22 minutes if it is sliced chayote squash.

Check whether squash is done by poking with the tip of a knife and making sure it is tender.

Drain well.
