Do spores make their own food?

Spores do not make their own food. Spores are dormant cells used primarily for reproduction and survival in adverse environmental conditions. They lack the necessary subcellular structures for photosynthesis, the process by which plants use sunlight to convert energy from carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.

Spore germination occurs when environmental conditions become favorable, such as adequate moisture, warmth, and nutrient availability. Once a spore germinates, it transforms into a vegetative or photosynthetic cell, also called a gametophyte or sporophyte, capable of producing its food through photosynthesis.
