Why do cut vegetables and fruits leave water when salt is sprinkled on them?

When salt is sprinkled on cut vegetables and fruits, water is drawn out of the cells due to the process of osmosis. Osmosis is the movement of water from an area of low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration through a semipermeable membrane. In this case, the cell membrane is the semipermeable membrane, and the salt outside the cell creates a higher solute concentration than the water inside the cell. As a result, water moves out of the cell and into the salt solution, causing the vegetables and fruits to release water.
