How to Roast Soy Nuts
Roasted soy nuts make a tasty savory snack or a crunchy addition to various dishes, especially salads. Soybeans are high in protein and full of iron, calcium and vitamin C. Because they are a plant food, soy beans are suitable for both vegetarians and vegans if you cook them with animal-free ingredients. Roasting your own soy nuts is cheaper than buying ready-roasted nuts and gives you the opportunity to make the nuts exactly how you like them.
Things You'll Need
- 1 to 2 cups dried soybeans
- Bowl
- Baking tray
- 2 tbsp. vegetable oil
- Kitchen brush
- Spatula
- Spices
Instructions
-
Rinse the soybeans and put them in the bowl. Cover with approximately twice as much water as beans and let them soak from at least 8 hours or overnight.
-
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Drain the soybeans.
-
Brush the baking tray with the oil and spread the soybeans on the tray in a thin layer, one bean thick.
-
Put the tray of beans in the oven for 30 minutes or until they're deep yellow and crispy, turning or stirring the beans several times with the spatula during roasting.
-
Shake the spices or others seasonings over the beans before, during or after roasting. Use salt, pepper, herbs, garlic powder, chili or any combination of these to taste.
