Uses for Avocados
According to Robin Parnes, a public health specialist from New York University's Langone Medical Center, the avocado is a fruit originally from Central America. Natives to the land used to grow the fruit and eat it regularly. They are fruits with a rough green shell, light smooth inside skin and large pit at the center.
Dietary Supplement
-
Avocados have a surprising amount of essential nutrients. An avocado has more potassium than a banana, it is high in dietary fiber and it is a good source of monounsaturated fats. The high fat content in avocados is a little of a drawback, though. Despite the abundance of nutrients and low calorie count, you should eat avocados in moderation to avoid ingesting too much fat.
Skin Care
-
You can enjoy the skin care benefits of avocados either through regular ingesting of the fruit or through applying skin care products with avocado. The fruit can do anything from firming skin to treating outbreaks of acne. The nutrients in the avocados can seep through your skin when applied in the form of a lotion. You can find products like this at your local drug store or purchase some avocado products from a dermatologist.
Accenting Food
-
Many people find the taste of avocado pleasing, which makes it an ideal side to many dishes. You usually see creamed avocado served with Mexican food dishes, but you can feel free to branch out and include it in an assortment of different meals. Some people include avocado in their salads or even minced into their mashed potatoes. Don't be afraid to experiment with adding avocado to certain dishes. This allows you to enjoy the taste of it more often.
Sleep Aid
-
Avocado is a heavy fruit that can make you feel full and sluggish, which puts you in the ideal position for a restful night's sleep. Just indulge in a little avocado a few hours before bed to help get your eyelids sagging. Do not go to sleep right after you eat, though. Eating immediately before bed can make you feel listless and drowsy in the morning.
