What do rollie pollies eat and drink?
Rollie pollies, also known as pill bugs or sow bugs, are decomposers! This means they play an important role in breaking down decaying matter. Here's what they eat and drink:
Diet:
* Decaying plant matter: They love munching on dead leaves, rotting wood, and other decomposing plant material.
* Fungi: They often eat fungi growing on decaying matter.
* Algae: They can also consume algae found on moist surfaces.
* Animal dung: Some species may feed on animal droppings.
Drinking:
* Moisture: They don't drink in the way we do. Instead, they absorb moisture from their surroundings, mainly through their skin. They prefer damp environments and can even survive underwater for short periods.
Important note: Rollie pollies are not insects, but crustaceans! They are closely related to crabs and lobsters.
