How do you make a light tomato sauce?
To make a light tomato sauce:
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 yellow onion, chopped
- 1 small red bell pepper, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken broth
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for serving (optional)
Instructions:
1. In a large saucepan over medium heat, add the olive oil.
2. Once the oil is hot, add the garlic, onion, and red bell pepper. Cook until the vegetables have softened, about 5 minutes.
3. Stir in the dried oregano and thyme and cook for 1 minute more.
4. Add the crushed tomatoes, chicken broth, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
5. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings if needed.
6. Serve the light tomato sauce over your favorite pasta or zucchini noodles, garnished with fresh basil leaves if desired.
Enjoy your light and flavorful tomato sauce!
