How to Cook Red Rice
Red rice is grown in the Himalayan Mountains and well known in India. It is similar in nutritional benefits to brown rice, and the cooking processes are alike as well. If you want a slightly nutty side dish that is more interesting than the usual long grain white or brown rice, consider making red rice. Children especially like the red color of the rice.
Things You'll Need
- 1/3 cup of red rice per person
- 1 cup water per 1/3 cup red rice
- Mesh strainer
- Pot with tight-fitting lid
- Stove
- Fork
Instructions

Place the red rice in a strainer. Rinse and drain.

Pour the red rice and water into the pot and bring to a boil on the stove over medium-high heat, uncovered.

Turn the temperature to "Low." Cover the pot.

Leave the rice to simmer, covered, for 15 minutes.

Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit covered for another 5 minutes.

Pull off the lid. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
