What is a shirt placard?
A shirt placard is a rectangular piece of fabric that is sewn into the front closure of a shirt, typically consisting of the upper portion of the shirt's central opening, and is folded back to cover any exposed buttons, snaps or other fasteners and provide a smoother, more finished appearance to the garment. It generally covers and reinforces the button or buttonholes, and can extend down to the hem of the shirt. Placards can range in colour and design, adding a decorative element to the shirt.
