Does feta cheese contain citric acid?

Feta, a brined curd white cheese, does not contain citric acid naturally. It is traditionally made from sheep's milk or a mixture of sheep's and goats' milk, and its distinctive flavor and texture come from the unique production and aging processes. During the production of feta, lactic acid bacteria convert lactose into lactic acid, which gives the cheese its tangy flavor and helps in its preservation. However, some commercially produced feta cheeses may have added citric acid, usually in small amounts, to enhance the tartness and adjust the acidity levels for taste preferences and shelf stability.
