Where did sugar cubes come from?

The invention of sugar cubes is often attributed to Jacob Christoph Rad, a Bohemian sugar refiner born around 1809. In 1843, while living in Dačice, Rad developed a method for pressing refined beet sugar into cube-shaped molds to create the first sugar cubes.

He presented his innovative sugar cubes at the World's Fair in Paris in 1847, where they gained the attention of European sugar refiners and ultimately revolutionized the industry. The production of sugar cubes became widespread, initially in Europe and subsequently across the globe.
