Shakespeare could not have possibly used a fork while eating in the 1500s. The use of forks as eating utensils popularized in Italy during the Renaissance did not become widespread in England until the 17th century. Shakespeare passed in 1616. In the 1500s most food was eaten with the fingers or with a spoon.
