Cocoa beans that carry the Fairtrade certification must come from fair-trade certified agricultural cooperatives registered by Fairtrade America or Fairtrade International depending on the region the cooperative is headquartered in. Some of the biggest producers of fair-trade cocoa beans include Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Peru, Colombia, Togo, and Madagascar.
