What is turkestan bread?
Ingredients
* 1 cup warm water
* 1 tablespoon yeast
* 1 teaspoon sugar
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1 tablespoon olive oil
* 1 egg yolk, beaten
* Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes until the yeast is foamy.
2. Add the salt, flour, and olive oil to the bowl. Mix on low speed until the dough comes together. Increase the speed to medium and knead for 5 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
3. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
4. Punch down the dough and divide it in half. Roll out each half into a 12-inch circle.
5. Place the dough circles on a greased baking sheet. Brush the tops of the dough with the beaten egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
6. Bake the breads at 375°F for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
7. Let the breads cool completely before slicing and serving.
