What eats phtoplankton?

Phytoplankton is the primary food source for zooplankton, small animals such as copepods, krill, and protozoa. Zooplankton, in turn, is a food source for fish, marine mammals, and seabirds. Some fish species, like anchovies and sardines, feed directly on phytoplankton. Additionally, some filter-feeding organisms such as barnacles and mussels consume phytoplankton as part of their diet.
