Where does food go after pharynx?
The pharynx is a muscular tube that connects the nasal cavity and mouth to the larynx and esophagus. It is part of the digestive system and the respiratory system. After the pharynx, food passes into the esophagus. The esophagus is a long, thin tube that connects the pharynx to the stomach. It is about 25 cm (10 inches) long and is lined with mucous membranes. The muscles in the esophagus contract and relax to push food down into the stomach.
