Nutrition Information for Gyros

You don't have to travel to Greece to enjoy its cuisine, as virtually every city across the U.S. has a restaurant that serves Greek-inspired dishes such as the gyro. The nutrition value of this sandwich, served on pita bread and typically loaded with roasted meat, lettuce, sliced tomatoes and tzatziki sauce, depends on where you buy it. In general, however, it can be high in calories, fat and sodium.

High in Calories, Fat and Sodium

  • Commercially prepared gyro sandwiches typically range between 400 and 650 calories and have 30 to 40 grams of total fat, depending on how they're prepared. The sodium content is also high, with 700 to 1,300 milligrams per sandwich, which is nearly the maximum amount of sodium you should consume per day. Gyros provide a hefty serving of protein, however, with 18 to 26 grams per sandwich. This sandwich isn't a major source of fiber or sugar. If you crave a gyro but are conscious about your diet, make your own sandwich, or see if your local restaurant serves small sandwiches.
